IRVINE / MONEY & CHECKS
What does the source actually prove?
A link helps only when it answers the claim beside it. Look for the product, the date and the limits.
MATCH THE CLAIM
Find the medicine in FDA’s approval records.
FDA is short for Food and Drug Administration. Its work includes reviewing U.S. medicines.
At the September 2026 check, a product’s entry in the National Drug Code directory was not evidence of FDA approval.
- NDC
- An identifying drug code, short for National Drug Code.
Ask for the medicine’s record in Drugs@FDA, the government’s approval records. Compare the name and form: tablet or injection.
An entry marked “BULK INGREDIENT” describes the material used to make a medicine; that entry does not show approval of the medicine you receive.
Open FDA’s medicine approval search Read FDA’s explanation of product codesWhat was studied?
Ask whether the claim comes from people in a study, animal work, or a sales page. Ask whether the same product was studied.
Then ask what remains unknown. A useful answer can have limits.
A report of harm is not proof of cause.
- Adverse event
- An unwanted experience reported while a medical product is being used.
FDA says reporting an event does not prove the medicine caused it, and does not mean the details have been medically confirmed.
The reports alone do not show how common that problem is across everyone using the medicine.
To understand how often, ask how many people used the medicine and how many had the problem. Reports alone cannot answer that comparison.
Read the reporting limitsDiscussion does not change the rules.
As of September 2026, advice from FDA’s outside expert panel did not itself change compounding rules.
The list at issue allows certain ingredients to be used in made-to-order medicines under a federal pharmacy rule.
To add an ingredient, FDA had to publish a proposed rule, invite public replies and complete its decision process.
FDA’s July 2026 meeting considered whether several peptide ingredients belonged on that list.
At the September 2026 check, no written summary, word-for-word account or official record of committee votes had been published by FDA for that meeting.
A headline saying experts discussed a peptide does not show that a pharmacy is now allowed to make it.
Ask which ingredient and which rule actually changed before treating meeting news as permission.
What if I want to report a problem?
FDA’s MedWatch programme gives patients a way to report problems with medicines.
For a pharmacy complaint in California, the state pharmacy board offers an online route.
That board does not handle ordinary medicine-price or insurance-billing disputes.
