IRVINE / GETTING CARE
What changes because I am in Irvine?
The local question is practical: who is allowed to treat you here, and who is allowed to send medicine here?
YOUR LOCATION COUNTS
Start with where the visit happens.
Irvine is a California city in Orange County; these state care rules apply when you are here for the visit.
At the September 2026 check, doctors needed a current California medical licence to treat patients who were in California during online care.
The doctor’s home state did not remove that requirement.
If you travel, give the service the place you will be during the visit.
Where is the licence check?
California’s shared licence search covers doctors, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists and pharmacies.
For a doctor, use the letters after their name: medical doctor is shortened to MD; doctor of osteopathic medicine to DO.
Both are doctors; those degree letters tell you which board to choose in the search.

In September 2026, California required the person treating you to explain online care and get your spoken or written agreement before starting it.
Consent means agreeing to that way of receiving care.
That agreement had to be recorded, and it did not rule out later in-person care.
What if the pharmacy is elsewhere?
The September 2026 rule required pharmacies based outside California to hold a state nonresident pharmacy licence before sending prescription medicines here.
- Nonresident
- Located outside California.
Making medicines free of living germs for shipment here also required a separate California licence, as of September 2026.
