Who makes and sends the medicine?
Ask which pharmacy fills the prescription and which business makes the medicine. The online service’s name may leave both questions unanswered.

FDA, short for Food and Drug Administration, says an online buyer of made-to-order medicine may be left unsure which pharmacy or business made it.
Ask for both names in writing if the business making it is different from the pharmacy filling the prescription.

In September 2026, a business’s choice to register with FDA was not approval of its made-to-order medicines.
PCAB is a pharmacy accreditation programme: an outside group checks how medicines are made, rather than testing each batch.
This process check was separate from a pharmacy licence.
Which California records matter?

California’s pharmacy board has searches for pharmacy licences and separate licences for sterile compounding, including businesses outside California.
A California nonresident licence was required in September 2026 for a pharmacy based out of state to ship prescriptions here.
A pharmacy outside California making these germ-free medicines also needed the separate state sterile-compounding licence.
Can I ask the pharmacist?
In September 2026, California required an out-of-state pharmacy shipping here to provide toll-free access to a pharmacist with the patient’s records.
The contact number had to appear on each medicine container’s label.
Ask how to reach that pharmacist and who handles a question after delivery.
What if the name does not check out?
As of September 2026, FDA had found fake compounded weight drugs carrying nonexistent pharmacy names or names of pharmacies that did not make them.
Compare the label with the state record. Ask the named pharmacy to confirm the product.
