A peptide joins small parts called amino acids into a short chain. Those parts also build proteins. The word does not tell you what a shot will do.

Amino acid

A building piece used to make a protein.

Peptide

A small chain made by joining those pieces.

Insulin belongs to this group.

That gives the word a meaning. It does not give every product the same purpose.

## What is the active ingredient?

Active ingredient

The substance in the medicine intended to do the work.

Ask for the ingredient name. A service’s name for a course of treatment does not tell you which medicine it includes.

## Does peptide mean approved?

No: in September 2026, the rules depended on which medicine was offered, rather than on the word peptide.

FDA is short for Food and Drug Administration. Its role includes reviewing U.S. medicines.

Some peptide medicines have FDA approval; medicines made to order do not, as of September 2026.

## What name can I take to a visit?

Write down the full ingredient name exactly as it appears. Add the proposed reason for using it.

Ask the doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant treating you to explain that medicine. A general answer about peptides leaves your question unanswered.
